Welcome to the summer edition of the Christian Brothers Information Technology and Website Services (IT & Website Services) eNewsletter. We hope this publication will keep you up to date on the latest news and trends in IT, along with updates on our IT & Website Services products and services available to all CBS members.
Our focus in IT the last few years has been on cybersecurity or “playing defense.” As we move forward and our organizations bring their employees back to the office, either in full-time or hybrid situations, it’s time to change things up and go back on offense with our IT projects. Going on offense means moving our organizational missions forward with business & technology projects that create, enhance, modify, and adapt to achieve desired benefits.
There is no more important IT project than your organization’s website. As your organization’s “front door” on the internet, your website is often the first contact your constituents and stake holders will have with your organization. Just like the front of your building, you want to make a good first impression.
Something as complex as creating a website for your organization can be a full-time job. Should you go it alone or hire an expert to create your organization’s website? In this edition, we’ll give you the reasons it may not be the best idea to leave such an important part of your organization to chance. There is also a link to case study of a diocese that let the experts take over—a decision they don’t regret.
Where your website and data are hosted is almost as important as its content. Skimping on web hosting can lead to excessive downtime, slow site speeds, and limited or non-existent support. We’ll give you some tips to look for in choosing a place for your website to “live.”
Just because we are focusing on offense doesn’t mean we can forget about playing defense against the cybercriminals who are determined to get our data and cause havoc. The Tips and Shortcuts section reveals how the shortened links that are commonly used in social media can make malicious links look safe to click.
Also included in this issue are some interesting facts you might not know to make your reading experience more enjoyable. As we savor the summer months, we hope you will also enjoy your new source on Information Technology.
